Conducted under the Lotteries Act 57 of 1997 and the Regulations Relating to Society Lotteries.
NLC Society Registration No. [to be inserted on registration]
These rules apply to everyone who buys a ticket. By buying a ticket, you accept them.
1. About this lottery
This is a society lottery run by ProEdX NPC to raise funds for Heather Secondary School and for ProEdX's educational programmes. The promoter and lottery manager is Mr N. Naidoo, authorised by the ProEdX Board.
The rules are available free of charge from any authorised seller and here at www.proedx.org/heather-lottery.
2. Tickets
Each ticket costs R45. Every ticket costs the same. There are no discounts, bulk rates or "buy more, pay less" offers.
Tickets are sold only as official numbered tickets issued by ProEdX, each with a matching counterfoil.
When you buy a ticket, complete the counterfoil with your name and contact number and return it to the seller. The counterfoil is your entry into the draw. Keep your ticket.
Please write clearly. We cannot enter counterfoils that are incomplete, illegible, or not returned before the draw.
Tickets are not sold to anyone under 16.
Tickets are not sold by machine.
3. The draw
The draw takes place on 9 January 2027 at Heather Secondary School, 27 Heather Crescent, Northdale, Pietermaritzburg, 3201.
Winning tickets are drawn at random, in public, in the presence of an independent witness.
Only tickets that are fully paid for, with counterfoils returned before the draw, are eligible.
Prizes are drawn from smallest to largest. The 1977 VW Beetle is drawn last, as the headline prize.
One prize per ticket. Once a ticket is drawn, it is set aside, so no ticket can win more than one prize.
The promoter's decision on winners, made in line with these rules, is final.
4. Prizes
There are 45 prizes, with a total stated value of about R164,000. The full prize schedule is published with these rules.
The value shown for each prize is its cash-equivalent, for information only. No prize can be exchanged for cash, and no cash alternative is offered.
Prizes cannot be transferred to another person before they are claimed and awarded.
Specific prize conditions:
1977 Volkswagen Beetle 1300 is awarded voetstoots — as-is, in the condition it is in on the day it is awarded. ProEdX gives no warranty about its condition, roadworthiness or fitness for any purpose. The costs of transfer, licensing and collection are the winner's responsibility.
Sun International accommodation vouchers (Wild Coast Sun and Sibaya Lodge): each is a two-night stay for two adults sharing, bed and breakfast, one room. Valid 15 January 2027 to 30 April 2027, subject to availability, and excluding public holidays, peak periods and school holidays. Vouchers are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash. Booking and redemption are the winner's responsibility, in line with the resort's terms.
All other prizes are awarded as supplied, subject to any conditions we tell the winner about.
5. Claiming your prize
Winners will be notified privately using the contact details on the counterfoil. The winning ticket numbers will be published to participants on the ProEdX and Heather Secondary School websites.
To claim, a winner must produce the winning ticket, show proof of identity, and complete a prize-winner declaration (NLC form SL06).
Prizes must be claimed within 30 days of the draw. A prize not claimed within 30 days is forfeited, and will either be applied to the beneficiary purposes of the lottery or awarded in a supplementary draw, at the promoter's discretion and in line with the Act.
We are not responsible for a prize that cannot be delivered because the contact details on the counterfoil were wrong or incomplete.
6. Where the money goes
The net proceeds of this lottery go entirely to public-benefit purposes: 60% to Heather Secondary School for projects benefiting learners (a kitchen for the school nutrition programme and a sheltered waiting area), and 40% to ProEdX for its educational programmes for public-school educators and school leadership. No part of the proceeds goes to private gain.
7. Your personal information
Personal information collected on counterfoils is used only to administer the lottery, notify winners, publish winning ticket numbers, and meet the promoter's legal and reporting obligations, in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act. Winners' names or images will not be published without the winner's consent.
8. General
These rules are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa.
We may change these rules only with notice to the NLC and, where required, its approval. Any change will be published here before it takes effect.
